What is a
Designated Driving School?
A Designated Driving School is a school that meets the standard of Article 99 of the Road and Traffic Safety Law, and is designated by the Public Safety Commission of each prefecture. There are many ways to acquire a driver’s license, yet 97.9% (as of 2016) of passer graduated from a Designated Driving School. Graduating for a Designated Driving School and then acquiring the license is the most common route in Japan. Also, a Designated Driving School provides safety and traffic lessons for the elderly and for minors. The close connection makes a Designated Driving School a traffic and safety center for the community.
The MERITS if Graduating from a
Designated Driving School
A Designated Driving School follows the standard set by the Public and Safety Commission。It also follows the set curriculum by the Road and Traffic Laws. If a student passed the graduation driving exam of the school, the student will be EXEMPTED from taking the driving exam of the License Center. If you will take the exam of the License Center without graduating form a Designated Driving School, you will be required to take the actual driving exam (which will be a burden for first-time takers).

Please note
①All classes are basically done by Japanese instructors so a conversation level of Japanese is required.
②Temporary learner’s license exam areonly done in Japanese, if you wish to take the exam in English,
you will need to take it at the Driving License Center.
③Reservations is needed for the driving skills lessons, reservation is from Monday to Saturday.
④You are not allowed to change course. If you want to quit the school, the amount that will be returned
to you will be deducted by the enrollment fee, classes you already took and the processing fee for
quiting the school.
⑤You can use our Free School bus service from Mondays to Saturday.
⑥On- the- day driving cancellation will cost 2,000yen(tax excluded)per 1 Period

Conditions for
Acquiring a Driver’s License
(Regular Vehicle)
- Age:18 years old and above
- Eyesight:single eye 0.3 and above, both eyes 0.7 and above. If one eye has less than 0.3 eyesight or unable to see, the other eye should have a 150°and above field of vision and an eyesight of 0.7 and above.
- Driving experience:none required.
Issuance of Question Form regarding Certain Diseases
- Issuance of Question Form regarding Certain DiseasesDue to traffic safety issues, people who suffer from certain diseases that may impede them from driving safely, may not acquire a driving license.
- Please consult the Driving Aptitude Consultation WindowThe Public Safety Commission has a driving aptitude consultation window to accept inquiries regarding certain diseases. Please contact the driving license center nearest to you before coming to this school.
